Evil Bible Quotes-December

Bible Quote for December 31

Death for Tasting Honey

So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle continued to rage even out beyond Beth-aven.  Now the men of Israel were worn out that day, because Saul had made them take an oath, saying, “Let a curse fall on anyone who eats before evening – before I have full revenge on my enemies.”  So no one ate a thing all day, even though they found honeycomb on the ground in the forest.  They didn’t even touch the honey because they all feared the oath they had taken.  But Jonathan had not heard his father’s command, and he dipped a stick into a piece of honeycomb and ate the honey.  After he had eaten it, he felt much better.  But one of the men saw him and said, “Your father made the army take a strict oath that anyone who eats food today will be cursed.  That is why everyone is weary and faint.”

“My father has made trouble for us all!”  Jonathan exclaimed. “A command like that only hurts us.  See how much better I feel now that I have eaten this little bit of honey.  If the men had been allowed to eat freely from the food they found among our enemies, think how many more we could have killed!”  But hungry as they were, they chased and killed the Philistines all day from Micmash to Aijalon, growing more and more faint.  That evening they flew upon the battle plunder and butchered the sheep, cattle, and calves, but they ate them without draining the blood.  Someone reported to Saul, “Look, the men are sinning against the LORD by eating meat that still has blood in it.””That is very wrong,” Saul said.  “Find a large stone and roll it over here.  Then go out among the troops and tell them, ‘Bring the cattle and sheep here to kill them and drain the blood.  Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.'”  So that night all the troops brought their animals and slaughtered them there.  And Saul built an altar to the LORD, the first one he had ever built.  Then Saul said, “Let’s chase the Philistines all night and destroy every last one of them.”  His men replied, “We’ll do whatever you think is best.”

But the priest said, “Let’s ask God first.”  So Saul asked God, “Should we go after the Philistines?  Will you help us defeat them?”  But God made no reply that day.  Then Saul said to the leaders, “Something’s wrong!  I want all my army commanders to come here.  We must find out what sin was committed today.  I vow by the name of the LORD who rescued Israel that the sinner will surely die, even if it is my own son Jonathan!”  But no one would tell him what the trouble was.  Then Saul said, “Jonathan and I will stand over here, and all of you stand over there.”  And the people agreed.  Then Saul prayed, “O LORD, God of Israel, please show us who is guilty and who is innocent. Are Jonathan and I guilty, or is the sin among the others?”  And Jonathan and Saul were chosen as the guilty ones, and the people were declared innocent.  Then Saul said, “Now choose between me and Jonathan.”  And Jonathan was shown to be the guilty one.  “Tell me what you have done,” Saul demanded of Jonathan.  “I tasted a little honey,” Jonathan admitted.  “It was only a little bit on the end of a stick.  Does that deserve death?”

“Yes, Jonathan,” Saul said, “you must die!  May God strike me dead if you are not executed for this.”  But the people broke in and said to Saul, “Should Jonathan, who saved Israel today, die?  Far from it!  As surely as the LORD lives, not one hair on his head will be touched, for he has been used of God to do a mighty miracle today.”  So the people rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death.  (1 Samuel 14:23-45 NLT)

Bible Quote for December 29

More Murdered Babies

Joshua conquered the entire country; the mountain regions, the Negeb, the foothills, and the mountain slopes, with all their kings.  He left no survivors, but fulfilled the doom on all who lived there, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.  Joshua conquered from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen to Gibeon.  All these kings and their lands Joshua captured in a single campaign, for the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.  Thereupon Joshua with all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.  (Joshua 10:40-43 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 26

More Killing

Then Joshua and all Israel turned back to Debir and attacked it, capturing it with its king and all its towns.  They put them to the sword and fulfilled the doom on every person there, leaving no survivors.  Thus was done to Debir and its king what had been done to Hebron, as well as to Libnah and its king.  (Joshua 10:38-39 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 25

Become a Eunuch for God

[Jesus speaking]  For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake.  He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.  (Matthew 19:12 ASV)

Bible Quotes for December 24

Joshua Kills More Children

From Eglon, Joshua went up with all Israel to Hebron, which they attacked and captured.  They put it to the sword with its king, all its towns, and every person there, leaving no survivors, just as Joshua had done to Eglon.  He fulfilled the doom on it and on every person there.  (Joshua 10:36-37 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 23

More Mass Killing

From Lachish, Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon; encamping near it, they attacked it and captured it the same day, putting it to the sword.  He fulfilled the doom that day on every person in it, just as he had done at Lachish.  (Joshua10:34-35 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 22

Mass Murder

Joshua next passed on with all Israel from Libnah to Lachish, where they set up a camp during the attack.  The LORD delivered Lachish into the power of Israel, so that on the second day Joshua captured it and put it to the sword with every person in it, just as he had done to Libnah.  At that time Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, but Joshua defeated him and his people, leaving him no survivors.  (Joshua 10:31-33 NAB)

Bible Quotes for December 21

Mass Killing

Makkedah, too, Joshua captured and put to the sword at that time.  He fulfilled the doom on the city, on its king, and on every person in it, leaving no survivors.  Thus he did to the king of Makkedah what he had done to the king of Jericho.  Joshua then passed on with all Israel from Makkedah to Libnah, which he attacked.  Libnah also, with its king, the LORD delivered into the power of Israel.  He put it to the sword with every person there, leaving no survivors.  Thus he did to its king what he had done to the king of Jericho.  (Joshua 10:28-30 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 19

Human Sacrifice

At the LORD’s command, a man of God from Judah went to Bethel, and he arrived there just as Jeroboam was approaching the altar to offer a sacrifice.  Then at the LORD’s command, he shouted, “O altar, altar!  This is what the LORD says: A child named Josiah will be born into the dynasty of David.  On you he will sacrifice the priests from the pagan shrines who come here to burn incense, and human bones will be burned on you.”  (1 Kings 13:1-2 NLT)

Bible Quote for December 18

Child Sacrifice

And this became a hidden trap for mankind, because men, in bondage to misfortune or to royal authority, bestowed on objects of stone or wood the name that ought not to be shared.  Afterward it was not enough for them to err about the knowledge of God, but they live in great strife due to ignorance, and they call such great evils peace.

For whether they kill children in their initiations, or celebrate secret mysteries, or hold frenzied revels with strange customs, they no longer keep either their lives or their marriages pure, but they either treacherously kill one another, or grieve one another by adultery, and all is a raging riot of blood and murder, theft and deceit, corruption, faithlessness, tumult, perjury, confusion over what is good, forgetfulness of favors, pollution of souls, sex perversion, disorder in marriage, adultery, and debauchery.  For the worship of idols not to be named is the beginning and cause and end of every evil.  For their worshipers either rave in exultation, or prophesy lies, or live unrighteously, or readily commit perjury; for because they trust in lifeless idols they swear wicked oaths and expect to suffer no harm.  But just penalties will overtake them on two counts: because they thought wickedly of God in devoting themselves to idols, and because in deceit they swore unrighteously through contempt for holiness.  For it is not the power of the things by which men swear, but the just penalty for those who sin, that always pursues the transgression of the unrighteous.  (Wisdom 14:21-31 RSV)

Bible Quotes for December 17

The Wicked Race

But judging them little by little thou gavest them a chance to repent, though thou wast not unaware that their origin was evil and their wickedness inborn, and that their way of thinking would never change.  For they were an accursed race from the beginning, and it was not through fear of any one that thou didst leave them unpunished for their sins.  (Wisdom 12:10-11 RSV)

Bible Quote for December 15

The Talking Ass

That night God came to Balaam and said to him, “If these men have come to summon you, you may go with them; yet only on the condition that you do exactly as I tell you.”  So the next morning when Balaam arose, he saddled his ass, and went off with the princes of Moab.  But now the anger of God flared up at him for going, and the angel of the LORD stationed himself on the road to hinder him as he was riding along on his ass, accompanied by two of his servants.  When the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing on the road with sword drawn, she turned off the road and went into the field, and Balaam had to beat her to bring her back on the road.  Then the angel of the LORD took his stand in a narrow lane between vineyards with a stone wall on each side.  When the ass saw the angel of the LORD there, she shrank against the wall; and since she squeezed Balaam’s leg against it, he beat her again.  The angel of the LORD then went ahead, and stopped next in a passage so narrow that there was no room to move either to the right or to the left.  When the ass saw the angel of the LORD there, she cowered under Balaam. So, in anger, he again beat the ass with his stick.

But now the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she asked Balaam, “What have I done to you that you should beat me these three times?”  “You have acted so willfully against me,” said Balaam to the ass, “that if I but had a sword at hand, I would kill you here and now.”  But the ass said to Balaam, “Am I not your own beast, and have you not always ridden upon me until now?  Have I been in the habit of treating you this way before?”  “No,” replied Balaam.

Then the LORD removed the veil from Balaam’s eyes, so that he too saw the angel of the LORD standing on the road with sword drawn; and he fell on his knees and bowed to the ground.  But the angel of the LORD said to him, “Why have you beaten your ass these three times?  It is I who have come armed to hinder you because this rash journey of yours is directly opposed to me.  When the ass saw me, she turned away from me these three times.  If she had not turned away from me, I would have killed you; her I would have spared.”  Then Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, “I have sinned.  Yet I did not know that you stood against me to oppose my journey.  Since it has displeased you, I will go back home.”  But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but you may say only what I tell you.” So Balaam went on with the princes of Balak.  (Numbers 22:20-35 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 13

Poverty is Evil

Wealth is good when there is no sin; but poverty is evil by the standards of the proud.  (Sirach 13:23 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 12

No Innocent Children

How can any man be just in God’s sight, or how can any women’s child be innocent?  (Job 25:4 NAB)

Bible Quotes for December 10

Blood Shall Flow

As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning, because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.  Return it to its sheath!  In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.  I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.  You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land.  You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.  (Ezekiel 21:33-37 NAB)

Bible Quotes for December 9

Kill Other Priests

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people.  And all the people went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down.  They demolished the altars and smashed the idols, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.  (2 Chronicles 23:16-17)

Bible Quote for December 8

A Priest Executes a Woman

Then Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders who were in charge of the troops, “Take her out of the Temple, and kill anyone who tries to rescue her.  Do not kill her here in the Temple of the LORD.”  So they seized her and led her out to the gate where horses enter the palace grounds, and they killed her there.  (2 Chronicles 23:14-15 NLT)

Bible Quote for December 7

Kill Babies and Old Men

I will spend on them woe upon woe and exhaust all my arrows against them: “Emaciating hunger and consuming fever and bitter pestilence, And the teeth of wild beasts I will send among them, with the venom of reptiles gliding in the dust.  “Snatched away by the sword in the street and by sheer terror at home Shall be the youth and the maiden alike, the nursing babe as well as the hoary old man.  (Deuteronomy 32:23-25 NAB)

Bible Quotes for December 6

Starving Children Satisfies the Lord

Those killed by the sword are far better off than those who die of hunger, wasting away for want of food.  Tenderhearted women have cooked their own children and eaten them in order to survive the siege.  But now the anger of the LORD is satisfied.  His fiercest anger has now been poured out.  He started a fire in Jerusalem that burned the city to its foundations.  (Lamentations 4:9-11 NLT)

Bible Quotes for December 5

Nonbelievers will be Killed

Seek the LORD, that you may live, lest he come upon the house of Joseph like a fire That shall consume, with none to quench it for the house of Israel.  (Amos 5:6 NAB)

Bible Quote for December 3

The Stench of Death

“I brought hunger to every city and famine to every town.  But still you wouldn’t return to me,” says the LORD.

“I kept the rain from falling when you needed it the most, ruining all your crops.  I sent rain on one town but withheld it from another.  Rain fell on one field, while another field withered away.  People staggered from one town to another for a drink of water, but there was never enough.  But still you wouldn’t return to me,” says the LORD.

“I struck your farms and vineyards with blight and mildew.  Locusts devoured all your fig and olive trees.  But still you wouldn’t return to me,” says the LORD.

“I sent plagues against you like the plagues I sent against Egypt long ago.  I killed your young men in war and slaughtered all your horses.  The stench of death filled the air!  But still you wouldn’t return to me,” says the LORD.

“I destroyed some of your cities, as I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.  Those of you who survived were like half-burned sticks snatched from a fire.  But still you wouldn’t return to me,” says the LORD.  (Amos 4:6-11 NLT)

Bible Quote for December 2

Drag Women with Fishhooks

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, Who say to your husbands, “Bring now, that we may drink!”  The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness, “Behold, the days are coming upon you When they will take you away with meat hooks, And the last of you with fish hooks.  “You will go out {through} breaches {in the walls,} Each one straight before her, And you will be cast to Harmon,” declares the LORD.  (Amos 4:1-3 NAS)

Bible Quote for December 1

Mass Killing

Then I saw a vision of the Lord standing beside the altar.  He said, “Strike the tops of the Temple columns so hard that the foundation will shake.  Smash the columns so the roof will crash down on the people below.  Then those who survive will be slaughtered in battle.  No one will escape!  “Even if they dig down to the place of the dead, I will reach down and pull them up.  Even if they climb up into the heavens, I will bring them down.  Even if they hide at the very top of Mount Carmel, I will search them out and capture them.  Even if they hide at the bottom of the ocean, I will send the great sea serpent after them to bite and destroy them.  Even if they are driven into exile, I will command the sword to kill them there.  I am determined to bring disaster upon them and not to help them.”  (Amos 9:1-4 NLT)
